August Sunrise Coed Hiking Social @ Cowles Mountain
Local’s summer is officially here! The kids are back in school, tourists are slowly thinning out, but the weather hasn’t gotten any cooler. When it’s too hot for a mountain hike and too busy for Torrey Pines, there’s only one solution for avid hikers: send it at sunrise!
This month’s hiking social will be a sunrise send up the highest peak in the City of San Diego! The summit sits at 1,593 feet, offering panoramic views from the mountains to the coast.

- Headlamps are highly encouraged (although your phone’s flashlight may get you by)
Trail snacks/ beverages are highly encouraged! The trail is entirely exposed so make sure to pack a hat, sunglasses, and sun screen. The temperatures will warm up fast (hence the early start).
We will be starting promptly at 5:30 am. Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to find parking, lace up your shoes, and walk to the trailhead. The weather is expected to reach 75 degrees by the time we finish hiking around 7:30 am. Although we’ll be starting in the dark, it’s going to be a warm summer morning. Plan accordingly.
